Sister School Japan - Soja Nishi


Kew High School have enjoyed a Sister school relationship with Soja Nishi Junior School since 2007. Soja City is located in Okayama prefecture which is approximately half way between Osaka and Hiroshima. It has approximately 500 students years 7-9.


Over the years the Sister School Relationship has provided many benefits for both schools including: 

  • Strengthen relationships, understanding and appreciation between staff, students and families in Soja Nishi Junior High School and Kew High School.
  • Knowledge and understanding of each other’s culture in building respect 
  • Opportunities for students and teachers to develop skills that enhance Australia-Japan relationships.
  • Visits of students and teachers to the sister-schools
  • Supports the teaching of Japanese in Victoria and English in Japan.
  • Develops ties of friendship and extensive learning through regular and on-going communication.



Each year Kew High School invite 14 students from Soja Nishi Junior School.  Students are hosted by families of the school community, they attend classes and unique Australian activities.  Every second year Kew High School Students visit Soja Nishi Junior School.  Lasting friendships and memories are made.
