All students join a house group when they start at Kew High School and remain in the same house. House groups provide another level of connection to the school and fellow students.
Kew High School has four House groups that were established since the school's development in the early 1960's. Mascots were developed by the House Captains in the early 2000's and voted on by staff and students.
Named after the historical district of Boroondara that Kew High School is located within. Boroondara (aboriginal word) is a Woiwurrung word meaning "Where the ground is thickly shaded". The Wurundjeri people were the first people to inhabit Boroondara.
Named after Cotham Road, named by James Ven Morgan - known as the "Founder and Father of Kew".

Through these Houses, the students can participate in a range of different activities and House events. During Term 1 and Term 2, the students participate in the three big House events – House Swimming, House Athletics and House Cross-Country. Every event that the student participates in, will earn points for their House. These points are tallied at the end of the year to determine the House winner at every year level.
Other House activities throughout the year include: House Soccer competition, House Basketball competition, Battle of the Band, House Debating and this year we had a House Olympics competition. All students are encouraged to participate in as many House events as possible and to help their House succeed.
