Second Hand Book & Uniform Shop
The Kew High School Second Hand Book and Uniform Shop is a service coordinated by the Kew High School Chaplaincy Committee. The shop provides the opportunity for books and uniforms to be sold on consignment.
Selling & Buying second hand books & uniforms
The Second Hand Book and Uniform Shop is a wonderful opportunity to save up to halve the cost of new books & uniforms, to help the environment by recycling reusable items and to raise money to enable the school to benefit from the services of a School Chaplain. The second hand shop is run by volunteers and is open every Tuesday lunchtime during terms 1 – 3 (12.20-1.10pm), enter via M4. In early December each year a major sale is held.
Selling
Books & uniforms will be accepted for sale throughout terms 1 – 3, however sellers are encouraged to wait until 4th term which is the busiest selling time. An exception is made for small sized uniforms, which are always in high demand. Goods should be accompanied by a Seller’s Form (see below) and should be dropped into the shop Tuesday lunch times or may be left at the school office (please place all sell items in a plastic bag with your Sellers’ Form). In November and early December intake bins are placed near the office. We are only able to accept books and uniforms in good condition for resale. Items that cannot be sold because they are no longer on the book or uniform list, or are in poor condition, cannot be returned to you, so please check your items and make sure they are on the lists below. At the end of term 3, sellers are asked to resubmit any unsold items via a written request. If we do not hear from you they will become the property of the shop.

Payment
Items are sold at 50-75% of the new price. If the shop is oversupplied with some items the prices may be discounted in 2nd and 3rd terms. The shop pays the seller 70% of the selling price. The 30% commission helps to fund the Chaplaincy program at KHS.
Cheques and statements are usually posted in February and September. Please keep the shop up to date with changes of address, especially if you are no longer a student at the school.
Buying
During the year uniforms and books are available for sale. Students are encouraged to come to the shop Tuesday lunch times to purchase books or uniforms for themselves, however parents are welcome. Items can be put on “hold” for up to two weeks if the student does not have the money on the day. Payments can be made by cheque made out to ‘KHS Chaplaincy Shop’ (let the student fill in the amount), cash, or credit card (not AMEX). Unfortunately we do not have EFTPOS facilities.
Refunds are only possible within 2 weeks of purchase, you must have the barcode still attached to the item and a computer-generated receipt (unless the shop has kept the barcode and given you have a hand-written receipt). Amounts over $50 will be refunded via cheque and will be posted to your home address.
End of year sale Book Orders
There will be a pre-order system for books when orders must be received before the sale day and will be processed in order of receipt. This year existing students have the option of ordering online through Q-portal.
Volunteers
Numerous volunteers are needed to help with the mammoth task of the end of year sale and to operate the shop throughout the year. Join up with a friend and we will roster you together or join on your own and make new friends. If you can spare a couple of hours once a term for a Tuesday lunchtime or have any spare time during the end of November and first week of December and the January opening days, please let the roster coordinator know by leaving a message with the school office. Volunteers who are not parents or guardians of enrolled KHS students are required to have a Working With Children Card or equivalent. Volunteers get first choice of the books and uniforms as a thank you!
