Chaplaincy Fundraising Dinner
– Thank you to everyone who supported the Annual Chaplaincy Spit Roast Fundraising Dinner held on Friday 29th May 2009. The dinner was held in the School Senior Centre an excellent location for a night of fun and celebration. The Dinner was attended by over 120 people and was a wonderful success raising over $4000. On the night the centre was beautifully decorated in the black and silver. We were entertained by a two musical group from Kew High School coordinated by Judy Bartosy; this was a wonderful addition to the evening. The committee fully catered the event this year and beautiful meal which was enjoyed by all who attended. The dinner was generously supported by the local businesses in Kew who donated thousands of dollars worth of prizes for the auction and raffle. The trading table was also a big fundraiser selling over $850 worth of goods donated by Lynette Carter, Jean Dale, Cheryl Berris, Enid Ross, Jeanette May, Kirralea Ashton and Frances McBean. Thank you again to all committee members and volunteers who helped make the dinner a huge success. Kew’s Chaplain
Rosemary Carter has been the Chaplain at Kew High School since July 2005. Rosemary has qualifications in teaching, social work and theology and her previous experience includes working as a youth and children’s minister with The Salvation Army.
Chaplaincy has a long history at Kew High School commencing back in 1986. The role of the Chaplain is supported by the Chaplaincy Committee. The committee is made up of representatives from local churches, school staff and parents. The committee operates to support the Chaplain, raise funds and promote awareness of the program. Together the committee and the school raise all the finances to fund the Chaplaincy at the school. The second-hand Book and Uniform Shop is the major source of funding to the Chaplaincy program. Operated solely by volunteers the shop sells books and uniform on commission. The shop is open one lunch time per week during school terms. The volunteers also run a pre-ordered sale, and open sale day during December each year.
If you would like to know more about school chaplaincy please contact the chaplain at the school on Ph 9859 8652. We are always eager for more people to be involved in all aspects of chaplaincy including the second hand book and uniform shop, the chaplaincy committee or through other school chaplaincy programs.
