Students' appearance to be within the school dress code.

All students are expected to dress in complete school uniform and to present a neat appearance with shirts tucked in at all times unless the Kew High School short sleeve tailored shirt is being worn in the summer months. Students are required to wear complete school uniform when travelling to and from school as well as on all excursions including sporting events. A uniform pass does not excuse students from wearing a complete school uniform on excursions, including sport.

1. Blazers are to be worn as outer garments by all students on all school occasions and on all school excursions unless otherwise stated.

2. Year 12 students may wear their Year 12 commemorative jumper as the outer garment on Tuesdays and Fridays, they must otherwise be in full school uniform.

3. A watch may be worn, but no jewellery. However, if ears are pierced, one plain sleeper or small stud may be worn in each ear. For safety reasons students may not wear drop earrings.

4. Facial piercings are not permitted at Years 7-10, however at Year 11 and 12 students may have a discrete stud (strictly no rings for safety purposes).

5. Extreme hair styles and hair colourings are not permitted.

6. There are to be no visible tattoos.

7. ‘Cross trainers’ are to be worn in PE and Sport classes but are not acceptable as a replacement for school shoes at other times. School shoes must have flat heels and be polishable black leather. Skate shoes are not permitted.

8. ‘Out-of- uniform’ days are sometimes held in order to raise money for social service. On such occasions, neat casual dress and neat safe footwear is permitted. The Principal reserves the right to decide what is permissible.

9. Skirts/dresses must be worn at or below mid-thigh. The waistband of the skirt must not be folded up.

10. Kew High School wide brimmed hats or caps must be worn during all PE and sport events during Term 1 and 4.

11. Students who do not meet the school’s code of dress/appearance will not be permitted to participate in out-of- school activities or in those activities where visitors come to the school.

12. The Chaplaincy Committee operates the Kew High School Second-Hand Uniform Shop which provides an economical alternative to the purchase of new items. When students exit Kew High School, they can sell or donate their uniform through the second-hand uniform shop.

13. It is highly recommend that the Kew High School bag is used.

14. It is advised that all articles of clothing, including shoes, be labelled to ensure misplaced items are more easily located.
